MECHANICS
instead of doing a kiriban for my 40,000th pageview, i'll be holding a contest. the theme is... lesser-known philippine mythological creatures. contestants should make an artwork depicting any (or a combination) of the following:
1. Mantahungal - a ferocious beast, which looks like a large hornless cow covered with long, coarse hair. it has large tusk-like fangs and can rip humans to pieces. it lives in thick forest patches on high mountainous areas.
2. Balbal - a ghoul with a humanoid form, has long nails and tongue and sails through the air like a flying squirrel. (on a side note, the creature becomes a ghoul when a laasan [a dark kingfisher] enters its body).
3. Intumbangol - a pair of giant subterranean serpents which create earthquakes when their bodies touch the pillars of the underworld.
4. Buso - shadow-creatures that haunt gnarled trees in graveyards. they dig up fresh corpses and feast on them.
5. Gawi Gawen - warrior giant, which has six heads, a colossal spear and axe blade, and a shield that spans the height of the sky.
6. Mamahandi - anito (or, in lack of a better term, elven) race which guard over wealth which man has acquired.
7. Ibabagsuk - anito which watch over plants and help them grow.
8. Tahamaling - watchers of the forest, and protectors of animals. look like long-haired people, but with a red complexion.
9. Kibaan - small, fair elves which have hair that reach to the ground, and golden teeth. their toes curiously point backwards. they are said to live in large bushes or small trees swarming with fireflies, and at evenings, play their native "guitar."
10. Berberoca - river ogres who prey on hapless humans. they suck in the water so rivers looks shallow, and flood them back when an unsuspecting victim approaches.
contest is open to people who are either in my watchlist or watching me and aren't subscribers yet (so others'll have a chance at being subscibers). note me with a link to your entry. you can have as many entries as possible. just to be fair, i'll be asking some friends who aren't in DA to help me with the judging. (and, just some more info: i'm more drawn to magical stuff, as opposed to dark and bloody ones. at least when it comes to philippine mythology) and i'll be featuring the entries in my journal - at least, before my own subbie expires.
Devious Comments
I hope I'll be able to do it on time.

Innocence roared
Still amazes
Untouchable Innocence

The horrors of a man cognizant of despair's ever-tightening volutions, circling the dark pupil of each watchful eye.
